Kitchen Remodeling in Central Pennsylvania
Our Services
What a kitchen remodel really involves, what it costs, and how long you lose your kitchen.
Goodridge Construction Group remodels kitchens across Columbia, Montour, Luzerne, Union and Northumberland counties. We do the whole job with one contract and one superintendent: demolition, any structural work, electrical and plumbing, cabinets, counters, tile, flooring and finish. You are not hiring a cabinet installer and then chasing down an electrician.
Most people asking about a kitchen want two answers before anything else. What will it cost, and how long will I be without a kitchen. Those are the first two sections below, because a contractor who will not answer them until after a sales visit is not being straight with you.
What a Kitchen Remodel Costs
Kitchen costs are driven by three things: whether the layout moves, what the cabinets are, and what is hiding behind the walls. Appliances and counters matter less than people expect.
What actually drives the number:
- Keeping the layout is far cheaper than moving sinks, ranges or walls, because plumbing and gas stay put
- Stock and semi-custom cabinets versus full custom is usually the single largest line on the estimate
- Older homes often need an electrical service upgrade before a modern kitchen will pass inspection
- Removing a wall means a structural header, and sometimes a footing, which is engineering and labor
- We give you a written estimate broken out by line, not one number, so you can see what to trade off
How Long It Takes, and Living Through It
Plan on being without a usable kitchen for most of the job. We sequence the work so the gap is as short as it can honestly be, but anyone promising a one-week kitchen is describing a cabinet swap, not a remodel.
A realistic schedule looks like:
- Design, selections and ordering: four to eight weeks before anyone shows up, because cabinets have lead times
- Demolition and any structural work: a few days
- Rough electrical, plumbing and inspection: about a week
- Drywall, flooring, cabinets, counters and tile: three to five weeks, with a pause while counters are templated and fabricated
- We set up a temporary kitchen space before demolition starts, usually a sink, fridge and microwave elsewhere in the house
Layout Changes and Load-Bearing Walls
Opening a kitchen into a dining or living room is the change that makes the biggest difference to how a house feels, and it is the one most likely to involve structure.
Layout and structural work includes:
- Removing walls, including load-bearing walls with a properly sized header
- Moving sinks, dishwashers, ranges and gas lines
- Adding or relocating windows for light
- Island and peninsula framing, including the electrical a code-compliant island needs
- Ceiling work where soffits come out or a beam has to be hidden
Cabinets, Counters and Finishes
We install what you choose. We will also tell you plainly where money is well spent and where it is not.
Finishes we install:
- Cabinets: stock, semi-custom and full custom, including local cabinet shops
- Counters: quartz, granite, butcher block and solid surface, templated after cabinets are set
- Tile backsplash and tile or luxury vinyl flooring
- Sinks, faucets, disposals and pot fillers
- Under-cabinet, recessed and pendant lighting
Electrical, Plumbing and Permits
This is the part that separates a remodel that passes inspection from one that becomes a problem when you sell the house.
Systems and permits:
- Dedicated circuits for the range, oven, microwave, dishwasher and disposal
- GFCI and arc-fault protection where code requires it
- Electrical panel upgrades where the existing service cannot carry a modern kitchen
- Supply and drain relocation, venting, and gas line work
- Permits pulled in your municipality and inspections scheduled and attended by us
Where We Work
Kitchens we remodel in:
- Berwick, Bloomsburg, Danville, Nescopeck, Catawissa and Mifflinville
- Wilkes-Barre, Nanticoke, Kingston and the Back Mountain
- Lewisburg, Mifflinburg and New Berlin
- Sunbury, Northumberland, Milton and Shamokin
- Older borough homes, mid-century ranches and new construction alike
A Kitchen Built by One Contractor, Not Six
The usual way a kitchen goes wrong is not bad workmanship. It is a gap between trades, where the cabinet installer is waiting on the electrician who is waiting on the inspector, and nobody owns the schedule. We run the whole thing. One contract, one superintendent, one number to call, and the permits are ours to pull. If your service panel turns out to be undersized, we handle the panel upgrade as part of the job rather than sending you off to find an electrician mid-project.
