Bathroom Remodeling in Central Pennsylvania
Our Services
What a bathroom remodel costs, what is behind the tile, and how long the room is out of service.
Goodridge Construction Group remodels bathrooms across Columbia, Montour, Luzerne, Union and Northumberland counties. Demolition, framing, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tile and finish, all under one contract with one superintendent.
Bathrooms are the smallest rooms we work in and the most unforgiving. Everything is wet, everything is tight, and almost every older bathroom hides something: rotted subfloor under the toilet, a vent that was never installed, galvanized supply lines. We open it up and tell you what is actually there before we price the rest of the work.
What a Bathroom Remodel Costs
A bathroom is not priced by square footage. It is priced by how much of it moves and what we find once the tile comes off.
What drives the number:
- Keeping fixtures where they are costs far less than moving the toilet, tub or shower drain
- Tile is labor, not material. A large-format wall of tile costs more to set than it does to buy
- Older homes often need the subfloor replaced once the toilet comes out, and that is not visible until then
- A second-floor bathroom over a finished ceiling is more work than a first-floor one
- We give you a written estimate line by line, with an honest allowance for what we expect to find
Tub-to-Shower Conversions
Taking out a tub nobody uses and putting in a proper walk-in shower is the most common bathroom job we do, and the one that changes a house the most for the money.
What a conversion involves:
- Removing the tub and reframing the opening
- Lowering and relocating the drain, which usually means opening the ceiling below
- A sloped, waterproofed shower pan, either a pre-formed base or a built mud bed
- Glass, a curb or curbless entry, niches and a bench
- Grab bar blocking in the walls now, whether or not you want bars today
Waterproofing, and What Goes Wrong Without It
Most failed bathrooms we are called in to fix did not fail at the fixture. They failed behind the tile, usually two to five years after someone else built them.
How we build a shower that lasts:
- Cement board or foam backer, never standard drywall in a wet area
- A full waterproofing membrane over the backer, not just taped seams
- Properly sloped pan and a correctly set drain flange
- Sealed penetrations at the valve, the showerhead and every niche
- Exhaust fan ducted to the outside, not into the attic or a soffit
Accessible and Aging-in-Place Bathrooms
A bathroom is the room that decides whether somebody can stay in their house. It is far cheaper to build it right now than to retrofit after a fall.
Accessible features we build:
- Curbless and low-curb showers a walker or wheelchair can enter
- Blocking in the walls for grab bars, installed or ready for later
- Comfort-height toilets and wider door openings
- Hand-held shower units, benches and lever handles
- Non-slip tile and better lighting, which matter more than most people expect
Plumbing, Venting and Permits
Plumbing and venting are where a bathroom either passes inspection or quietly becomes a problem.
Systems and permits:
- Supply and drain relocation, including replacing galvanized or failing lines we uncover
- Proper venting for every new fixture
- GFCI protection, dedicated circuits and fan or light wiring
- Subfloor repair and replacement where rot is found
- Permits pulled in your municipality, inspections scheduled and attended by us
Where We Work
Bathrooms we remodel in:
- Berwick, Bloomsburg, Danville, Nescopeck, Catawissa and Mifflinville
- Wilkes-Barre, Nanticoke, Kingston and the Back Mountain
- Lewisburg, Mifflinburg and New Berlin
- Sunbury, Northumberland, Milton and Shamokin
- Older borough homes where nothing is square, and newer homes alike
Built to Stay Dry
A bathroom remodel is judged five years later, not on the day it finishes. Tile looks the same whether there is a waterproofing membrane behind it or not, which is exactly why it gets skipped. We build the parts you cannot see the same way we build the parts you can, we pull the permit, and we are the ones who come back if something is wrong.
